April 2007
Easter Schedule For Ariel Chapel
by Nick Harris

Most of our readers will receive the Roar after Palm Sunday, but in case we go to print earlier than usual, we want to announce the waving of the palms at 10 o'clock on Palm Sunday morning, April 1. Ariel Chapel is a new fellowship, but there are a number of children that attend and the waving of the palm branches is something they will always remember. The sermon for the morning is entitled, "The Agony of Faith."

The next event on the schedule is a Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday communion service that will be celebrated on April 5. If you have never attended one of Pastorís evening communion experiences, you owe it to yourself to participate.

The service will begin at 6:30 P.M. in the auditorium. There will be special music followed by a beautiful service of sharing bread and wine together as we renew our covenant with Christ. Pastor will also do a brief teaching.

Some of our readers may not know the meaning of Maundy Thursday. The word Maundy comes from the Latin word, MANDATUM, from which our word "mandate" is derived. The name is related to the fact that when Jesus and his disciples shared his last supper together, he gave them a command, a mandate. He told them to "love one another as I have loved you." We call this mandate the Great Commandment.

The fact of the matter is this: Jesus ate His Last Supper on Tuesday night and was crucified on Wednesday, not on Friday. Pastor will address all of this at the service.

However, it is his opinion that Christians can celebrate communion in memory of the great Commandment on any night or day that the body of Christ chooses to gather.

One thing is certain: on Easter Sunday morning, Jesus arose from the dead, and we will celebrate his resurrection on Easter Sunday morning with great joy, as we remember his words:

"I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth upon me even though he dies yet shall he live and he that liveth and believeth it in me shall never die."

The Easter sermon is entitled, "The Conquest of Death."
