From Chris's Heart

April 2009
From Chris' Heart
by Chris Harris

Easter at the Harris’ was a precious time like most. It was filled with the usual family and extra friends gathering for a great lunch and of course the Easter egg hunt in the back yard with all eyes in search for the golden eggs where one dollar bills were found the year before. All nine grandchildren were here along with their parents and what a fun time we had.

On Palm Sunday, the Sunday before, we celebrated our regular 5th Sunday dinner at the Chapel. Oh my gosh, what a deal! This took real effort and a lot of love. You see, our little Chapel is growing and instead of feeding 75 or so, we were challenged to find room for 135 or so. And to top it off, our number one cook, Harvey Craig, had surgery on his foot and could not do our cooking.

From the beginning to the end of the challenge, God put it all together, and it was perfect! Thanks to people like Rick Slay taking me to Sam’s in his pick-up to buy extra tables, and Brian and his team setting them up, to Pam and Paulette stepping in for Harvey, and peeling and preparing 30 pounds of the most scrumptious gourmet scalloped potatoes you have ever tasted, and Kris and Debbie delivering our fried chicken and biscuits which was topped off with a beautiful white cake decorated with the words, Baruch Ha’shem Adonai, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, all bases were covered.

It really took coordination on the part of everyone. You see, we had to have service in the sanctuary, and then just as soon as service was over, we had to move out at least 75 chairs to the dinning room, or Loaves and Fishes room, which then made room for the other tables to be set up in the sanctuary. Oh what fun! We all just pulled together, and within 5 minutes the tables were set with coordinating Easter color plates, cups and napkins, and topped off with tulips placed in vases at each table. At that point the servers stepped in and began serving all 135 plates. Within 10 minutes everyone was served and blessed by a delicious Palm Sunday dinner and lots of fun and fellowship.

You know me, I loved every minute of it, but I had planned and thought through every detail until I lost sleep over it, and then in that sweet calm voice, He said,”it will be perfect, I have blessed you with the tools, and the ability to make it just that, perfect, now rest in that”. So…. I did, and it was! Isn’t that the way it always is? God is so Good!
