From Chris's Heart

April 2007
From Chris' Heart
by Chris Harris

I just returned last night from a wonderful trip to San Francisco. What a beautiful place. My friend Teri Bell and I flew out to visit another friend of ours, Susan Glasgow. Susan was a member of our church many years ago in Fairview, and met Teri on one of our trips to Israel.

First I have to say that Susan was a precious hostess and an absolute phenomenal tour guide. We saw it all!! We started off the night we arrived by eating a delicious Italian meal in a downtown San Francisco restaurant followed by a play called, Beach Blanket Babylon. This play has run for over 33 years. The costumes were fabulous and the dancing, singing and acting was the best ever. On top of it all, our seats were on the front row.

On Saturday we did San Francisco. Susan, knowing Teri and my love for chocolate, took us to the famous Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory for a tour and tasting party. Oh my gosh! It was so fun and we learned a few things too.

After lunch we took a long walk through Muir Woods and saw the unbelievable Redwood trees. We then drove over the Golden Gate Bridge and got out and took pictures like you only see in the movies. We then found our way to Lombard Street, better known to me as the crooked street and zig- zagged down to face the cable cars and the famous Coit tower on the hill. We walked along the bay through Fisherman’s Wharf and ended the day with a delicious hot fudge sundae in the famous Ghirardelli Square.

Sunday we made a trip down to Pebble Beach and the beautiful 17 mile drive between there and Carmel. In Carmel we visited Clint Eastwood’s restaurant, the Hogs Breath Inn, and had my Birthday dinner at a fun place my son-in-law told us about called Forge in the Forest.

We topped the visit off by just spending some time together with Susan in her precious home where we watched the movie, Facing the Giants, eating popcorn and sharing a good cry. I had asked God to bless our time together and to direct our paths, and He did just that. We serve an awesome God who has given us so much to experience and enjoy. Thank you Lord, and thanks to you too, Susan.
