February 2010 Permits Received for Bridge in Kenya by Nick Harris After months of delays and attempted bribes, permission has come down from the government of Kenya to build a new walk bridge across the Thanantu River next to our mission compound. The letter forwarded to Pastor Harris reads as follows: “The site for the proposed footbridge across the Thanantu River has been inspected. It is proposed that a 20m span foot bridge be constructed across the river. The footbridge will consist of structural and steel members on reinforced concrete columns with 15m ramps on both approaches. Enclosed herewith please find engineering drawings and bill of quantities. Please inform the undersigned when you are ready to commence the works for the necessary technical supervision to be provided.” The letter is signed by J. P. Kirimi, the district roads engineer for the Tharaka Province. This process has taken a very long time. Pastor and Brian Bishop met with the tribal chief and the Minister of Parliament for this area over two years ago on our compound. Things move very slowly in Africa and this project was stalled for eighteen months. Now things are moving. We continue to need your support for this project. We do not have enough money for the project to be completed. The impoverished people around the compound are giving all they can to assist us, but if God should move your heart to help us, we would be most grateful.
